22 Students Caught Cheating, 2 Invigilator Suspended

The officials of the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) on Friday caught 22 candidates involved in using unfair means (UFM) during the Botany paper of Class-XI, Pre-Medical Group, while two invigilators were also suspended for their failure in performing their duties effectively.

The UFM cases have been referred to the committee who would review the matter before giving due punishments to the accused candidates, Chairman BIEK, Anwar Ahmed Zai said. The BIEK officials during their surprise visits to various examination centres also recovered a number of cellular phones from the possession of the candidates, who were busy in solving their papers with the help of these phones. The chairman BIEK seized their answer scripts and asked these candidates to leave the examination centre, while two internal invigilators present in the examination room were also suspended with immediate effect. Zai told them not to come to the examination centre in the upcoming papers as their services are not required.

However, Zai warned that examination centres would be changed if the Board received any complains of non-seriousness of the centre superintendent or other staff deployed at the examination centres to monitor the exam.

This year, Aisha Bawani College, Government College Anda Morr, North Karachi, Ship Owners College and Government Abdul Hamid Bidauni, Qasba Colony are not considered to be examination centres, Zai further said. Because, last year, the BIEK had received complaints against these colleges and candidates were not satisfied with the management of these colleges, he added.

The Board also received a large number of complaints against the power failure and absence of the law-enforcement personnel at the examination centres.

Meanwhile, the governor secretariat has issued a notification, which stated that Muhammad Imran Khan Chisti has been promoted into grade-19 as the Controller of Examination, BIEK. The controlling authority of the Board had already given its approval in this regard.

Earlier, Chisti was working as an acting controller of examination BIEK as the seat was vacant after the expiry of the contract of former controller of examination, Professor Akber Mirza.
